Fall Car Service Tips in Grand Rapids, MI
Fall Car Maintenance Check List
The seasons are changing and before you know it, it’ll be freezing here in Grand Rapids. We want you and your vehicle to be as prepared as possible for the upcoming weather so we’ve put together this fall car maintenance check list to keep you safe.
Oil and Fluid Levels
Maintaining your fluid levels and getting oil changes can be categorized as regular maintenance but it’s always a good idea to check these before it gets incredibly cold outside. Along with the oil, you’ll want to check wiper fluid and coolant as well.
Visibility is immensely important and one of the scariest things that can happen while driving is losing your ability to see what’s right in front of you. If your wiper blades are old and don’t properly clear your windshield, there could be serious consequences ahead.
Tires and Battery
Science plays a big part in the state of your tires. When the cold air comes around it’s more condensed and therefore your tires start to lose a bit of air. You’ll want to check the pressure on them and get them inflated to the proper air pressure (which may be located on the driver side doorjamb or in the glove box). Cold air can also affect your battery so you should have it checked to ensure that it’ll last through the upcoming months.
If, for some reason, you get stranded in your vehicle, you should have a survival kit stored in the car to ensure that you will make it until you get help. Keep a blanket to keep warm in case the vehicle won’t start and you have to stay warm. Other helpful supplies include a flashlight, road flares, jumper cables, a first aid kit, and snacks.
